Where to EASY SUP Safely
Paddle boarding is a great sport for all athletic levels. From the first-timer to a seasoned enthusiast. It is also the best way to explore different locations in the water. Our main priority is the safety of our guests and visitors. Paddle Boarding in dangerous or crowded conditions is prohibited. Below is a list and description of the best and safest areas to EASY SUP. These locations are breathtakingly beautiful and deserve the respect of all who visit them. Please always enjoy these areas safely and with reverence for its beauty by not leaving behind trash. We can also do our part by picking up any trash you may come across on your journey. We thank you for your "malama", which means To take care of, tend, care for, preserve, protect, save, or maintain. Aloha!
Wailua River
Kauai's most popular navigable river. The Wailua river is mostly wide and usually very calm. A perfect location for an EASY SUP adventure! The Wailua river leads to the fern grotto and a secret hidden waterfall a short hike from the riverbank. The secret waterfall is our favorite destination on Wailua river and takes approximately 1.5-2 hours round trip to hike in and back to the riverbank. While paddling up river you will enjoy the serenity and beauty of the local landscape including Sleeping Giant mountain ridge that resembles a giant lying on its back. You won't be alone on the river as it is a popular playground for kayaking, paddle boarding, small boats and foil boarding. There are 2 water entrance ramps on each side of the river, we recommend the small boat ramp on the north side. We highly recommend Wailua river to all our guests. You will not be disappointed!
Hanalei River
Similar to Wailua River yet not as wide, this fresh gently flowing river is a must do on the North Shore! With perfect conditions for paddlers of all levels Hanalei river is amazing. Picturesque views of the majesty of Mount Waialeale, which receives some of the highest annual rainfall on earth, feeds the river all the way to the ocean at Hanalei Bay in the heart of Hanalei town. As you EASY your way down the river you will see vibrant green taro fields and flowing waterfall mountain peaks. We recommend launching from the shallow bank off of the parking area for Hanalei Bay. Hanalei Bay has all the amenities including bathrooms and showers. Although there is no accessible waterfalls at the end of this adventure rainbow, the sights are well worth the journey.
Hanalei Bay
The motivation of multiple song lyrics, Hanalei Bay is the main attraction on the North Shore. With two miles of soft sandy beach and the 4,000 foot majestic mountain peaks as a backdrop, Hanalei Bay will make you fall in love with Kauai. The bay is most calm in the summer months when the winter swells subside. With all ocean locations we recommend asking a lifeguard about ocean conditions before going out. If the conditions are not ideal you always have Hanalei river as a back up option. Theres no better feeling as you cruise along the bay on your EASY SUP, soaking up the sweet north shore sun!
Anini Beach Park
If you are looking for a calm ocean location with amazing underwater visibility for exploring the reef and marine life, Anini Beach Park is your spot. The outer barrier reef protects this coastline from large swells. Making this spot a haven for paddle boarding of all skill levels. If the winds are light the underwater visibility is crystal clear, spotting our Hawaiian green sea turtles is common here. You may even see a Hawaiian monk seal make an appearance as they enjoy these calm waters as a resting area from the open ocean. Due to the topography of the sea floor at Anini, it is possible to venture out to sea about a half mile while the water depth stays shallow. We recommend parking and setting up at the boat ramp, where you can most easily access the water. Anini Beach Park has both bathrooms and showers.
Kalapaki Beach
For the quick and EASY SUP adventure, head to Kalapaki Beach in Lihue. This bay is protected from the wind and swells are mostly on the small side making this ocean location a great spot to get wet! Easy water access and a calm tranquil bay make for amazing paddle boarding conditions. Kalapaki Bay is one of Kauai's smaller bays, so if you don't have all day to play this is a good option when time is limited. There are multiple shops and restaurants near the beach to enjoy. Please stay clear of the surfing area on the right side of the bay.
